TGCSA - 4 star luxury Guest House
The Best Guest House on the Cape Peninsula.

Tranquility Guest House is situated just 30 minutes south of Cape Town and nestles between two mountains and two oceans along the False Bay coast. Set high up on a mountainside, it boasts magnificent sea and mountain views, and is within walking distance to the beach. Since its opening, Tranquility has been inundated with people who love a delightful place to be and a place where refreshment and restoration are not hard to find, including warm South African hospitality.

Open the mountain door and, if you are feeling energetic, take a walk in Table Mountain National Park, amidst the indigenous fynbos, to Elsie’s Peak, where the views are unbelievable and False Bay lies before you from Strandfontein to Cape Point; or within a few minutes walk to Fish Hoek’s beautiful, long, white, sandy beach, one of the safest and warmest swimming beaches in the Cape; and its equally famous whale-watching promenade, Jaegers Walk, where from July to October, whales loll just 50 metres from the shore in preparation for mating and giving birth and huge schools of dolphins may be near by.

Visitors are sometimes treated to the sight of the local fishermen 'trekking' (the Dutch word for pulling) for haarders and yellowtail fish just off the beach. Smell the salt in the air, feel the sand between your toes and breathe in the fresh mountain air. If you're hungry, why not try the fish shop across from the BP garage in the village, renowned by Capetonians across the Peninsula for its delicious fish and chips. If it is exercise you are looking for and you have a bike or a good pair of shoes, the road to Kalk Bay or to Simon’s Town is the perfect one to hit. With waves crashing below you on one side and mountains towering above you on the other, your senses become intoxicated with just being alive.

Kalk Bay, with its famous fishing Harbour; its own version of Petticoat Lane: junk shop after junk shop filled with bric-a-brac and “antiques” and of course its famous cafés and restaurants – not to mention ‘Olympia Café and Deli’, known for its good food and its fresh pastries - is only around the cove. Historical Simon’s Town, its naval base and museums, its famous dog - St. Just Nuisance – and its boat trip to see the now famous breaching of the Great White Shark; as well as Boulder’s Beach - swimming with the penguins - are a twelve minute car ride away and a twenty minute ride by car will have you at the most south westerly point of Africa at Cape Point, a natural World Heritage Site, where the cold Benguela current on the West coast and the warm Agulhus current on the East coast merge.

The guest house is ten minutes by car from the internationally renowned Chapman’s Peak Drive and the oldest wine route in the Cape, the Constantia Vineyards, the first, a perfect vantage point to watch the sun go by and the second, a great outing for a rainy day, where anything from wine to olives can be enjoyed.

The guest house is 45 minutes away from Cape Town International Airport and centrally disposed to all of Cape Town’s tourist attractions, the perfect guest house for one day tours to Cape Town city-centre, the V&A Waterfront, and Table Mountain; Hermanus; the Cape Winelands and the West Coast National Park to see the flowers. Should you be a golfing enthusiast, your wife shall have the privilege of waking up and looking out her window to catch you, in time, teeing off of your first hole – with binoculars, of course – at the famous Clovelly Country Club just across the valley.

WHAT IS TRANQUILITY? – A luxurious and exclusive guest house where food is our passion, the tranquility addictive and the attention to detail our gift. Where you leave the bustle of the valley below and you rest beneath the crag of a mountain; you lie in bed watching the sunrise and you hear the Cape francolins announcing the start of a new day; you linger by the fireside eating a delicious home-cooked breakfast and you soak up the sun on your private deck whilst reading your favourite book; you take Rosie, our border collie, for a walk to the beach or up Elsie’s Peak and you become one with nature and smell the fresh flowers; you watch whales frolic in the bay and you gaze in awe at the breathtaking views of the valley, mountains and sea; you lie in the Jacuzzi on the mountain deck beneath the stars and you relax in a candle-lit bath spellbound by the moonlight; you feel the warmth of hospitality and you enjoy the pleasures of Tranquility. It is the most peaceful state of mind.

So why not come and stay at a guest house which has something for everyone and plenty of soul too. May Tranquility touch your soul!

Directions
FROM CAPE TOWN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Take the (N2 - Cape Town) - West towards the City and the mountain (approx. 12 km). You will see signposts directing you to Muizenberg / Kirstenbosch Gardens. Follow them until you bear left onto the M3 (Muizenberg turn-off–South).
Continue along the (M3) - until the Tee junction at the end of the freeway (approx. 15,7km). You will go past the University of Cape Town, Newlands Forest, Claremont, up Wynberg Hill, down past Constantia and then Tokai and finally as you get closer to the mountain you will arrive at the Tee junction.

At this Tee junction, bear left onto the (M42) and then turn right at the traffic lights onto the (M4 South – the Coastal Rd) towards Muizenberg and Lakeside on your way to Fish Hoek, passing through Muizenberg, St James, Kalk Bay and finally arrive in the main road or high street of Fish Hoek.

At the end of the high street of Fish Hoek you will arrive at a roundabout or circle with directions bearing either left on Simonstown Road to Simonstown (M4)or right on Kommetjie Road to Kommetjie (M65 - West).

Bear right around the circle towards Kommetjie on Kommetjie Road (M65) and continue along Kommetjie Road until you take the 2nd road left into Highway Road. You will pass the Memorial garden on your left hand side, the Catholic Church on your right hand side, Fish Hoek primary school on your right, the Pool Shop on your right and just after you see the Mcdonald’s sign on your right you will start looking for Highway Road. You will pass 13th Avenue and signposts to the local Spar just before you turn left into Highway Road. There is a veterinary surgeon on the corner as well as a Christmas tree.

Travel on Highway Rd for 200metres and take the 2nd Berg Rd right climbing up the mountain for approx 400metres. Be careful as the first road right is also Berg Rd. Pass over Ranger Rd and then turn 2nd road right into Peak Rd around a very sharp corner and travel for a further 200metres.

Tranquility Guest House is No. 25 on your left hand side. There is ample guest parking on the street between the driveway and stairs or you are welcome to attempt our steep driveway and park on the right hand side.

It is at dawn, on the boat and in the deep waters, on the westerly side of the island, that you have the opportunity to witness one of nature’s most awesome spectacles, the now famous breaching of the Great White Shark as it pursues its prey, the Cape Fur seal. It is the only place in the world where you are fortunate enough to glimpse this intense predatory/prey interaction and a must do for your trip to Cape Town.

THE PELAGIC SHARK SPECIAL
We invite you to stay at Tranquility Guest House for an ‘expect the unexpected’ adventure.

Take a boat trip past Cape Point in search of the warm Agulhas current, our target to see the magnificent Mako and Blue sharks as well as the massive yellowfin tuna that they hunt. It is this warm current as well as multitude of fish species that attract the great predators of the deep. The Mako shark is the fastest shark in the sea and coupled with its beautiful blue and silver colouring it is a truly magnificent creature, aptly described by Peter Goadby as “Blue Dynamite”.

This trip takes place during our Summer and Autumn months and a variety of shark species are seen as well as being one of the best areas in the world to see pelagic birds.

To view these sharks, we use sophisticated low frequency sound equipment to attract them. Once they are around the boat and conditions permitting you will then have the chance to dive with them or simply watch them cruise around the boat at your leisure. The emphasis is on FREE DIVING. Many who have cage dived with Great White sharks have actually said that this open water free dive with the pelagic sharks was the real highlight of their trip. Expect the unexpected!
